Traditional Norwegian breakfast and lunch generally consists of a smorgasbord of breads and toppings, with meats, cheeses, jellies and jams, fresh cut vegetables, and even chocolate spreads. One can also find fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, and coffee, tea, juice, milk, etc. The Kantina has a salad buffet, and a hot meal selection or hot soup for those wishing hot meals in the middle of the day.
Dinner is the typically the biggest and only warm meal of the day. At the Kantina students usually have a choice of meat or fish, potatoes, vegetables, and side dishes for dinner.
In addition to the Kantina there are restaurants, cafes and two grocery stores right across the street from campus. All incoming international students are given a comprehensive “Norwegian food guide” upon arrival that describes Norwegian traditions and recipes, the cheapest restaurants and grocery stores for students, and nutrition information. |
