Permit for educational purposes: study in Norway for more than 3 months
European countries (EU/EEA Members) - As of 1 October, EEA nationals no longer need to apply for residence permits in Norway. It is sufficient that they register on arrival except for Romanian and Bulgarian students, they will still need to apply for a residence permit.
Nordic Countries If you are a citizen of another Nordic country (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland) you do not need visa or permit for educational purposes in order to study at Bodø University College.
As a citizen of one of the following countries, you will need a permit for educational purposes, but not a visa: Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bermuda (BDTC-pass), Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hong Kong (SAR-pass), Honduras, Israel, Japan, Korea Republic, Macao (SAR-pass), Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, USA, San Marino, Singapore, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Exchange Students When you take part in an exchange programme, either through Erasmus or any other bilateral agreement your university may have with Bodø University College, you may apply for your permit for educational purposes whwn you have arrived in Norway.
If you are not coming to BUC as part of a formal exchange programme, you must apply for a permit for educational purposes before you arrive in Norway at your nearest Norwegian Embassy or Consulate. In order to obtain a permit for educational purposes, you will need the following documentation:
- Letter of Acceptance issued by Bodø University College.
- Proof of financial funds sufficient to support yourself during the stay at in Bodø. For the academic year 2009/2010, exchange students must have a minimum of NOK 8.760 per month.
- Confirmation of housing; either through Bodø University College or private accommodation.
If you come from a country not listed above, you will need both a visa and a permit for educational purposes. When you have been accepted to Bodø University College, contact your nearest Norwegian Embassy or Consulate to check what you need to obtain a visa to or permit to enter Norway.
When you apply for a permit for educational purposes, the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate will, as a minimum, require the following documents:
- Letter of Acceptance issued by Bodø University College.
- Proof of financial funds sufficient to support oneself during the stay at the Norwegian institution. For the academic year 2009/2010, exchange students must have a minimum of NOK 87.600 per academic year.
- Students can use Bodø University College`s deposit account. Information will be given along with the letter of acceptance.
- Confirmation of housing, either through Bodø University College or private accommodation
To apply for a visa amd /or permit, you will in addition need to document purchase of travel insurance with medical cover.
